Description
Nastro Azzurro is an international beer produced by the
Peroni Brewery of Rome. It is a premium pilsner. The taste
is that of a typical pilsner with a hint of citrus and well-ripened
hops. It is 5.1% alcohol by volume.
Its name means Blue Ribbon in Italian in honor of the Blue
Riband won by Italian Ocean Liner SS Rex in 1933.
In the United Kingdom, Nastro Azzurro is perhaps best known
as the main beer served in the pizza chain Pizza Express,
although it has become more readily available in both draught
and bottled form over the last five years. In many places
Nastro Azzurro is marketed simply as 'Peroni' as it is the
only Peroni product widely available. In the United States,
Nastro Azzurro is marketed as Peroni Nastro Azzurro. The
label is strikingly similar to the actual Nastro Azzurro
label.
