Description
Specially brewed by Elgood's at the North Brink Brewery,
built in 1795, the year Vancouver completed his survey of
the Pacific North-West coastline of the Americas.
Captain George Vancouver was born in King's Lynn going
to sea when just 14 and sailing twice round the world with
Captain Cook. Under orders from the Admiralty he set sail
in his ship Discovery in 1791 for the Pacific and
North-West coast of America, over 5,000 miles of this coast
were surveyed in 4 years.
Captain Vancouver used Norfolk places and families to name
numerous features on the North-West coast. Today the cities
of Vancouver (Canada) and Vancouver (USA) are named after
Lynn's greatest sailor who deserves recognition in the maritime
annals of England. In 2007 the 250th anniversary of his
birth (22nd June) is being celebrated.
Comments
BBC » If I was
sailing with Captain Vancouver 200 odd years ago this would
probably be the greatest treat, but these days I can do
without the marmaladish flavur. Too bad, being from Vancouver
I had high hopes for this beer. At least vancouver
is a pretty cool name for a city.
