Description
Alexander Keith's India Pale Ale was originally crafted
for British troops serving in India. The high quality ingredients
and the preservative effect of hops kept the beer fresh
on the long voyage down the coast of Africa, around the
Cape of Good Hope and into the Indian Ocean. This superior
ale soon became the favourite of British troops everywhere.
With so many soldiers stationed in Halifax, each with a
daily 1 gallon ration of beer, it made sense that the city
have its own India Pale Ale- or so thought Alexander Keith.
In 1820 he began brewing India Pale Ale under his own name.
To this day, his fine ale is still produced only in Halifax.
Those who like it, Like it a lot.

BBC » I used
to really like this stuff when I lived in The Maritimes
back in my undergrad days but now I would only drink it
when there aren't any other options.
